Most business owners know they're turning away controls jobs, but very few know what it's actually costing them.
On the call, we'll go through the work you've said no to, the jobs you've passed to subcontractors, and what your customers are already asking for.
By the end, you'll know exactly how much revenue is sitting there waiting for you to say yes to.
This is the same step-by-step process that took Howard from turning down £120k+ worth of work to designing and building his own panels.
And Gavin from relying on subcontractors to delivering a £75k project with his own team.
I'll walk you through how it works, so you can see exactly where you'd start on your next controls job, even if your team has never touched controls before.
If it makes sense to work together, we'll build a plan around your business:
your team, your current customers, and the future opportunities coming your way.
You'll leave knowing which project to go after first and how to deliver it in-house.
And if we're not a fit, you'll still leave with a clear picture of what needs to change and why.

It’s for established electrical, mechanical, heating and HVAC business owners who keep saying no to controls work or subbing it out. You learn the skill, your team helps you deliver it, and the work stays in your business.
It isn’t for you if:
• You haven’t got customers yet and need leads
• You’re new to business and don’t have a team
• You’re after a career change or a job in controls
• You only want domestic work
• You can’t commit four hours a week for six months
If that’s you, this isn’t the right time. If it isn’t, apply below.
Yes. If customers keep asking and you keep saying no, the work is already there. You were right to say no. Guessing on a customer’s site is a bad idea. Howard was turning down £120k+ of controls work before he joined. Now he designs and builds his own panels.
About four hours a week, fitted around site work.
That’s roughly three hours of your own time plus a 60-minute group coaching call. For the first 90 days, those three hours go on learning the technical side. After that, they go on delivering real projects with me. You also get a 60-minute one-to-one with me each month.
You don’t stop working or go away on a course. You learn the basics before you price anything, then your real jobs become the practice, with me checking them.
Yes. Howard and Gavin weren’t doing controls when they started. One was turning the work down, and the other was handing it to subcontractors. This isn’t a four-year apprenticeship. At 40+, you already know your trade and how buildings work, and that’s what we build on. We start with the basics and go one step at a time: electrical schematics, specification and design, panel builds, commissioning, pricing and client handover.
Yes, and you’re well suited to it. You already know the plant and how boilers, pumps, valves and air handling units should run. That’s half of controls. The other half is where your kit meets the electrics, and that’s the part I help you with.
Gavin does heating. He went from relying on subcontractors to delivering a £75k controls project with his own team.
No, unless you want to. Howard now designs and builds his own. Others spec exactly what they need and have a panel shop build it. Either way, you’ll understand the panel well enough to price it, check it and put your name to it. Once it’s in, you'll be capable of supporting it with a maintenance contract too.
You won’t be on your own. There’s a weekly group call with me, one-to-one time, direct messaging, a community of contractors doing the same thing, and I’ll review your projects and specifications with you.
If a job needs more than advice, that’s what the fractional controls department is for. It’s like having a controls engineer (me) on call without hiring one. I can step in on design, panel builds or commissioning, on site or remotely, at a reduced day rate for members. You keep the customer and the profit.
Yes. The aim is for you to be ready to take on your first project within 90 days. Howard was delivering control panels in six weeks. We work through real enquiries and specifications from your own customers, so you’re pricing actual jobs, not exercises.
Start small and build up. Gavin started on £6.5k jobs, moved up to £15k, and is now delivering a £75k project.
I can’t promise how much work you’ll win. That depends on your customers and what you put in. But you’ll know which jobs to go for, how to price them, and that you’ve got me to support you.
A manufacturer course teaches you their product. College teaches theory. Neither shows you how to find, price and deliver a controls job for your own customers, and that’s what this does. I’ve delivered controls projects from £50k to £1.5m, and I run a contracting business myself.
No. I spent years at Loxone as a partner coach and support engineer, so it’s a fair question. But I’ve also worked with Siemens, Control4, Tridium and KNX, and I teach how controls work underneath the brand. Whether the job specifies a manufacturer or you choose one yourself, you’ll know how to approach it. If a product suits a job, I’ll say so. If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you that too.
You fill in a short application, then book a 30-minute Zoom video call with me, not a salesperson. We go through the three things in the section above. Booking doesn’t commit you to anything, and because I only work with five business owners at a time, I’ll tell you straight if it’s not a fit.
